The night started-off with the lights going down and the spotlight on Sheen, as he walked down the main aisle to the stage in a Falcons jersey. Former Korn guitarist, Rob Patterson, was playing some heavy riffs on stage for the grand entrance.

Of course, fans were going crazy and cheering up a storm.

As “Sheenius” took the stage, he seemed very at home and grateful for the the thousands of fans that came to the party. He spoke by himself for awhile, then sat down for a quick interview with The Regular Guys, local Atlanta radio personalities Steve and Larry.

Then a little bit later, comedian and roastmaster Jeffrey Ross pummeled Charlie with a barrage of insults, all in good fun of course. After, they actually brought ten random members from the audience on stage to ask Sheen any question they wanted.

There was even an instance where a crazy fan hopped on stage, only to be met swiftly by incredible hulk, Chuck Zito. Seriously, the guy could pass for an Italian mobster from the Sopranos.

I thought Charlie delivered a good performance. One of my take-aways was that he’s a real genuine dude that loves his fans. I didn’t expect to see a comedy show like Chris Rock or George Carlin, and that’s not what it was.

Marketing lessons you can learn from Charlie Sheen

1) Authenticity. Know who you are and who you’re target market is. Charlie doesn’t try to appeal to everyone and isn’t out to make everyone happy. Love him or hate him, he’s brutally honest and unapologetic.

This is major reason his tour has a packed house at every stop.

While the pornstar, drug-filled lifestyle is not something I care to partake in, I totally respect the guy for being true to himself and for having the balls to take the heat.

2) Pattern break and disruption marketing. You don’t know what the heck Charlie will do or say next. He’s disruptive, outrageous and it sells bigtime!

You’ll find many of the most famous marketers in the world that use pattern interrupts regularly in their sales copy or content marketing.

3) Controversy sells! I don’t need to say more on this one, just look that the news that surrounds Charlie. However, he’s a savvy businessman and doing a good job capitalizing on the controversy.

He’s even got a new iPhone app out now. Charlie could be doing a much better job monetizing his popularity from the web, but he’s off to a good start.

Sheen was also controversial in his questioning the official 9/11 government account / events that took place in 2001. That got him a bunch of press and headlines.

The bottom line is this. It was definitely a WINNING performance here in Atlanta, moving Sheen to 12-2 as far as the tour series goes. I’ll throw some pics up soon on the blog so you can see. Marketers can also learn a lot from him when it comes business growth.

W Fort Lauderdale Review

Last weekend over the Labor Day holiday, I flew down to Florida to stay at the W Fort Lauderdale which is nestled on A1A close to the beach. It was a nice 4 days of relaxation, hanging-out with friends, snorkeling, and just living the good life. I made the decision to stay there because I’ve had such memorable experiences here at W Atlanta Downtown during seminars, parties, and at one of my favorite restaurants, Spice Market.

From my experience, I feel the W is in a class of it’s own and unique in many ways. It’s well-known as a premium destination and, in my opinion, one of the few places where the customer service and attention to detail REALLY live up to the hype. The architecture, aesthetics, inside decor, customer service and general ambiance set a wonderful tone for the guest experience.

Of all of the high-end hotel and resorts I have stayed at (with the exception of 1 other), I would say that the premium you pay is definitely worth it. Huhh?? You may be thinking, how can you justify $15 drinks and gladly pay it? Well, if you remember when I posted Online Entrepreneur Rules to Live By, you’ll recall a RULE in there that says:

You must charge a premium price so you have a large margin to provide an extraordinary value & experience

This is something that I learned (not soon enough) and have lived by in business ever since. Why would I expect a luxury establishment to feel any different? The fact is, I wouldn’t. Now, unfortunately high price isn’t always associated with quality, amazing value and experience. I think we all know that. However, don’t be afraid to seek-out a premium experience because you DESERVE the best in life.

I find it interesting that I haven’t been paid one cent to write this review of W Fort Lauderdale, yet feel so compelled to let my friends and colleagues know about what an incredible experience I had there.  There’s a big underlying message here that all businesses should take note of… wink, wink.

What does this mean to Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc (parent company of W)?

It means ongoing, positive free press, exposure, publicity, and website visitors coming from my high-traffic blog. This is helping them tap into yet another ripe market of potential customers who are interested in having an unforgettable experience at a high-end hotel. Talk about viral and referral marketing at its best!

Think about it for a moment. As a chiropractor, how many times have helped one patient and provided great service and then BAM, they refer you a slew of New Patients on an ongoing basis. Some may say those types of people are far and few between, however I submit to you that you can make those types of patients a regular occurrence! Tell me that wouldn’t be great?

Having your customers, patients, or clients spread your message like wildfire is the byproduct of over-delivering, paying attention to the smallest details, making them happy, giving them an unforgettable experience, and having their needs / wants in mind as an integral part of your business model.

In fact, make them feel like a celebrity…

I strongly feel the W Fort Lauderdale does this very well, hence why I recommend you stay there if you’re looking for a memorable and trendy hot-spot. Several times during my stay, I had staff members go out of their way to help me and it felt GENUINE. With so much insincerity and surplus of generic people nowadays, this means a great deal.

Let me ask you this, how can you give your existing customers or patients an unforgettable VIP experience? What if one of them was in a position like myself, that could blast you out online to major outlets and get you MASSIVE exposure? You never know who you’re going to meet and it’s ALWAYS a good idea to give everyone the 5 star experience!

While studying human potential, it never ceases to amaze me what can be accomplished when all perceived obstacles and psychological barriers are removed. I remember growing-up in a small town in southeast Michigan, being surrounded by friends and family, in a limited belief system that was not really my own. I instinctively knew that I was different and never place limits upon myself or what I could achieve. Yet, I watched how others would continuously make excuses and settle, selling themselves short letting their present external circumstances dictate internet beliefs.

One of the lessons I took away was to think big, regardless of how “unrealistic” I thought my desire was or “how” I was going to make it happen. An interesting thing began to unfold when I started doing thinking this way. The “how” eventually took care of itself when I began to take action toward my dreams and maintain focus. I attracted the network, relationships, and skill-set that would eventually lead me on an extraordinary path and where I am today.

There’s been just an incredible amount of buzz circulating in recent months about how Facebook basically kicked Google where the sun doesn’t shine with the introduction, and now exploding popularity, of Facebook Ads. In case you’re not aware, there’s a war going on between the #1 most popular website in the world (Google) and the #2 most popular website in the world (Facebook). The chart below from Compete.com shows just how neck and neck they are, comparing the unique monthly visitors for the past year.

To add a little controversy, recently Google also canned about 15,000 Adwords accounts because…. well… they could. Now, are other factors involved of why some accounts were severed? Of course, and I’ll get into those on a later blog post. But, more than anything, this is a clear demonstration of Google waiving it’s big stick of power over the little guy.

By the way, I encourage you to not fall into the trap of keeping all of your eggs in the Google basket and focusing on them solely for your website traffic. Are getting 1st page Google rankings great?  Yes, however, many times it’s only an ego thing and gives you tunnel vision so you overlook the other vast sources of traffic online. In fact, many of the online elite that have been making the most money from the internet fired Google a long time ago!

Interesting thing as well, Google roundhouse kicked a core group of affiliates that had been making them millions of dollars per year in ad revenue. I have a friend who spent no less than $30,000 / month on Adwords and they canceled his account overnight… WITHOUT warning. He was smart, though. Google was only another pole in the water for him, as he had been using a bunch of other paid high-traffic sources grow his business. Shenanigans like what I described have caused a major shift to happen in the online marketing industry forcing others to step out of the box and harness other relatively untapped mediums.

I will probably go deep into the nitty-gritty in a subsequent post, but for now, realize that having traffic only coming from Google can be a dangerous roll of the dice. Check your website Analytics and if the big G is where you get all of your traffic, I recommend seriously diversifying your internet marketing efforts, as you future online could depend on it.
